Usage

Natural corks continue to be the most widely used closure (Chart 8a). Eight out of 10 survey respondents indicated that they use natural corks for at least a portion of their 750ml bottles. One-third of the respondents noted that they use technical corks and a quarter of the respondents said that they are currently using synthetic closures or screw caps. Note that the data only indicates which wineries are using a particular closure and not the total volume of wine production. The percentages total more than 100 percent because many wineries use multiple types of closures.
